Whats
the latest on the fraternal cooperative?
If
you attended the 2009 Presidents or Secretaries
Section meeting or the NFCA Annual Meeting,
then you know that one of your associations
most important initiatives is to develop
a fraternal cooperative
a shared services program that can help
member societies combine resources to
generate economies of scale, take advantage
of the expertise on certain key issues
within the fraternal system, and join
forces to market innovative new financial
services products to the next generation
of members.
Working
groups have been formed to determine the
feasibility of the three specific cooperative
programs. Here is a brief update on each:
* Compliance services...
* Procurement (group purchasing)...
* Retail banking services...

not an official component
of the fraternal cooperative initiative,

projects that are closely tied to the
effort:

Guest
Editorial: The Same, Only Different
by
Jackie Felling, National President and
CEO, Degree of Honor Protective Association
In
July, Degree of Honor hosted what we used
to call our National Convention, held
every four years. This time, instead of
calling it a convention, we called it
a National Get Together. Why the name
change? Because like other fraternal benefit
societies, we are reinventing ourselves.
We are becoming more relevant to todays
families. How many kids would get excited
about going to a convention?
If we want fraternalism to thrive in the
future, we have to involve and
excite more families and their
children now. Todays kids will be
tomorrows core group of active members.

Update
from NFCA's Fraternal Advisory Committee
After
a summer of hard work, the Fraternal Advisory
Committee has wrapped up its extensive
review of how the NFCA collects fraternal
data and has developed a new method to
report fraternal contributions.
For
years, the NFCA has asked societies to
report basic fraternal information regarding
the number of members, number of lodges
and fraternal events, and the amount of
financial support provided to support
lodges. As fraternals have evolved over
the years, the NFCA found it necessary
to expand fraternal data collection methods
to reflect the variety of ways in which
fraternals are engaged in their communities.
